Augmented Reality in This Week’s Headlines

In case you missed it, augmented reality (AR) was trending big time this week! Not only is AR technology being used in mobile gaming, but it’s becoming a buzz word in the fashion and mobile shopping industries as well. Stocket’s upcoming launch comes at the perfect time, as the game’s AR features will allow users to experience mobile shopping in a new, exciting way. Check out augmented reality in some of this week’s headlines:

Apple CEO Tim Cook said on ABC’s Good Morning America that he sees more potential in augmented reality compared to virtual reality. Cook said, “My own view is that augmented reality is the larger of the two, probably by far, because this gives the capability for both of us to sit and be very present talking to each other, but also have other things visually for both of us to see. Maybe it’s something we’re talking about, maybe it’s someone else here that is not here, present, but could be made to appear to be present with us. So there’s a lot of really cool things there.”

Designer Rebecca Minkoff’s latest New York Fashion Week show used augmented reality to help women shop the looks they saw on the runway. Minkoff, a true early adopter, has used drones and virtual reality to connect with her audiences at previous shows. For her latest show, she partnered with a startup called Zeekit, whose AR technology works by uploading a photo of yourself and then picking out clothing items from the show. Zeekit then overlays those items on your body using the size you choose, allowing you to see the outfit on yourself, rather than a lanky runway model’s body.

The last great read was from HBR on how augmented reality offers retailers the opportunity to transform how people shop. The article states that “applications using AR stand to eliminate customer pain points, elevate customer service, and create a differentiated, personalized customer experience. The successful incorporation of VR and AR into retail models also has the potential to vastly change the way retailers are thinking about stores of the future.”

Stay tuned to see how Stocket’s augmented reality features reinvent mobile shopping! Our game-commerce app will be launching to an exclusive group of early adopters very soon. If you want to be one of the first to play Stocket, click here to sign up.
